well this is my second thread i still have the 1604 prob yadda yadda
so i tried putting it into DFU mode, which...doesnt work it just keeps getting recognized by itunes as ''recovery mode''
which inturn gives me the 1604 error.
I have used Ziphone to try to get it into DFU [ convienient little button ]
which searches...and searches..and searches for my ipod with no dice
i have also used the manual way which keeps getting it into recovery mode...
any tips / tricks / spiritual beings that will help?

If you are trying to go from 1.X to 2.X make sure you have the NEWEST ITUNES

Which way did you put it in DFU? And was the screen on when it was in "DFU"? Cuz if it were in DFU it should look like the ipod is off=screen blank.

going from 2.2 back to 2.2 [ something messed up and it pretty much bricked itself ]
the screen went completly white once... but then it went into recoverymode again.
i did the hold both buttons let go of the pwr when it turns off then let go of the hold when it is recognized method.

Well it sounds like you are doing it right. What I did when ever that happened to me was restart my computer then it worked fine.

Also make sure you have usb 2.0 and try different usb slots when restarting.

Let me guess, your using OS X 10.5.6? If you are, you need to either use windows or an earlier version of OS X.

. I think he can fix it if he obtains that file that classifies usb devices.
