Ipod Mini Help

    This is my first post, so give me some slack, but anyways...

    I recently accidentally had my ipod mini in my pocket with some neodymium(very strong) magnets, and now my ipod is freezing at the apple logo on start up. i think that the software or hard drive is messed up, buts thats all i know. please respond fast, thanks!

    It's the hard drive, the iPod mini was a hard drive powered iPod. The magnets caused the platters on the hard drive to shift their sectors which corrupts them. You'll need a new hard drive at least to fix it.

    Or on the other hand, buy an iPod that's not 5 years old and uses flash memory.

    Thats what i thought...man, this one lasted so long too! i could throw it against concrete or walls and it would break, it would fix it if it was frozen also! but anyways, thanks for the replies

    I agree that the hard drive is screwed up. In effect the magnets did a low-level erasing of everything on the disk. Try to restore it through iTunes. If that doesn't work installing a new hard disk is fairly straightforward and follows the same steps as replacing the battery. I swapped the 4gb HD in mine for a 16gb HD. I gave it to someone when I got my first touch but it is still working fine for her. Try ifixit.com for a walk-through on repairs for the mini.
