I have had my iPod touch 2g since November 15,2008. It says it is fully charged and then randomly shuts off and turns black it will not respond to holding the home and sleep button. When i plug it into the computer a message pops up saying my ipod is detected in recovery mode, then the battery says it only about 20% full after maybe 10 minutes of use and a whole night of charging. This all started happening after i got the upgrade and i have restored my ipod over 20 times. Please help im new to forums and just want an answer so i know if i need to buy a new one or not.

clean restore without a back up to the latest 3.1.2 firmware (use the 2G 3.1.2) or 3.1.3 if you don't need a a jailbreak.

I believe you can still jailbreak a 2G on 3.1.3 by using redsn0w and a 3.1.2 firmware file.

put ur iPod into DFU n restore with 3.1.2/3.1.3 firmware. And u can jailbreak it with redsn0w. I did it 2 days ago

redsn0w was fast for me as installing Cydia via USB is quicker than downloading via my WIFI!

to put ur iPod in DFU:
    1. connect ur iPod to iTunes n make sure the sound of ur computer is high enough.
    2. hold POWER+HOME button until iPod shuts off. A USB device disconnected sound will confirm that.
    3. after getting the sound leave the POWER button but keep holding the HOME button until iTunes popup with a restore MSG. at this moment ur iPod screen should be blank.

BTW custom bootlogo via redsn0w is sweet!

maybe your battery is nearing its death? try replacing it or a charge cycle, charge to 100% then let it drain to 0 then charge to 100 again
