Yes you can have iTunes installed. Are you sure you are doing it right? Hold the top button and the home button at the same time for however long it says, then let go of the top and continue holding the home button.

Yeah says hold home for how ever many seconds then when the next one appears I hold the top and home, then I let go of top and continue holding home, and no go.

Well I think you are getting an error because it's not in DFU mode. I'm not saying your not doing it right, I'm just saying it's probably not in DFU mode. I don't think it has anything to do with itunes.

    Try following this

If you have your speakers on, try listening to the connecting/disconnecting sounds. Hold the top and home til it disconnects, and let go of the top and hold the home until it connects. That should work.

I found the problem I forgot, I got it off ebay today, okay. My ipod won't turn off, when I slide and click turn off the screen goes black and then it turns back on, it will NOT turn off. Do you know how I can fix this?

If you hold the top and home button for a little while it should turn off, which is the first step to DFU mode.

Well you open up quickpwn and one of the steps is to put it in DFU mode.
