shift click restore instead of update
do it the way this guide says http://rupertgee.wordpress.com/2008/01/17/worlds-easiest-113-to-111-downgrade/

you may need to restore back to 1.1.3. then try to downgrade again
if you dont have 1.1.1. here it is [Link removed]

I've renamed your thread to something that's inoffensive.

Don't just click on restore, do a force restore. I believe there's a sticky explaining this. That should clear up any problems. If it doesn't, try restoring again, but make sure that it's the current firmware that's on the touch. iTunes can sometimes be very finicky about the version number during the verification phase.

If that doesn't work, iTunes will spit out an error message at you, usually a number. Do a search on this forum for how to resolve that specific error.
