I just received a 3g touch (8g). I bought it on eBay and it is disabled. I know that I may have done this wrongly, but it seemed like a legitimate story, and something that I could fix.

I figured that I can fix it if I can get it to connect to the PC. the machine sort-of recognizes it, the iTunes says it needs a code, but I am unable to do a DFU. When I press the top button, nothing happens. When I press both, nothing happens either until the touch goes into "sleep" and the screen goes black.

Hopefully it is not a brick, if so I am ticked at myself for being cheap and buying one that needed to be fixed. In theory, if it is a brick, could I have the "drive" inside replaced and be back to square one for less $$$ than a new one?

    Any help is greatly appreciated...TIA,

Is it a problem in that my iTouch is considered to be a camera?

No. It does that to my iPod too. The screen shot feature makes it thinks it's a camera.

Recovery mode: connect to itunes logo
DFU mode: Black screen, iTunes recognizes as recovery mode.

I can't get it to do anything. Whenever I press either home or the power buttons, nothing happens, other than it wakes from sleep.

yer the reason dfu always works is there is a seperate chip inside the ipod to do such a thing.

There are also programs that go into dfu for you in case the buttons don't work.
