I was getting ready to jailbreak an iPod touch 2nd generation 2.2.1. I restored it to factory 2.2.1, and then I opened quickfreedom and the iPod got a white screen. I knew that wasn't right... I put the iPod into DFU to try to get back to stock 2.2.1, then it says "software for this iPod is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again."

Edit: alright problem solved.. But I'm curious why the iPod white screened before I even used quickfreedom on it. Anyone know? ...I'm trying it again now.

edit2: it worked fine this time. I dunno what happened.

That white screen can mean one of two things:

    White screen of death

    OR

a pre-restore pacth has been applied. If a regular restore dont work you go to recovery mode. If that doesnt you go to DFU. And after DFu comes this screen
