This is a brand new iPod, and I have noticed that after a few mins into using ipod for internet or apps some areas of the back cover start getting warm. Is this normal?

Over time, this will happen. When it gets hot - if you can, try removing the case, especially when charging. Just perhaps turn it off when not in use, so this gives it chance to rest - so it's not been used at ALL, as even when you just press the power button to lock it - its still in use ?

Yeah, its normal. The amount of heat changes depending on what you run, and the location of the heat changes as well. For example, wifi heavy apps such as web surfing will make the upper left warm, while games will make the bottom warm.

If it gets hot to where it burns your hand you need to send that in.

I rarely get my iPod even to where I can feel heat on it.My iPod stays cool all the time.

Heat is never a good thing to have even if it's not a severe amount of it.

    That means your overheating it.

So keep an eye on it man.

That's not good for his eggs! You'll over cook them.

It should get hot (not burning) in the bottom left corner during charge, and even during a long period of use. A good rule of thumb for iPod heat: If it gets too warm to touch that corner, send it to apple (DFU restore before if you are jailbroken.)
