Today, I attempted to update my mom's un-jailbroken iPod touch 3G to iOS 4.0. iTunes downloaded the update and began to restore the iPod as planned. It got most of the way done, and then it stopped around 90-95% (the status bar says "restoring iPod software"). It's been sitting like that for about two hours and it hasn't moved a pixel. What should I do?

If you have Wifi sync installed, uninstall that. I heard that it could cause the problem you are describing.

Kill all the apple processes and restart computer and try again. WIFI sync patches your computer not ipod.

Yea, but if his iPod has Wifi sync installed, the desktop app will need to be installed on his computer as well. And it's the wifi sync on the computer that cause the problem.

Ok, i was just assuming that he had never jailbroken his device and therefore he would have no reason to have the wifi sync desktop app.

Yes, I do have Wifi sync installed on my computer (for my own iPod). Should I delete it?

Well, uninstall it for now, and see if the restore works. Then you can reinstall it after.
