Hey. I tried going in to DFU, and iTunes recognised it is in restore mode (I think it should be doing that.. right?) but I get no white screen. I've unplugged and replugged, but still nothing.

    Any help please? Thanks.

You need to upload the 2.2.1 iBSS dfu file to your ipod to get the white screen.

upload the custom firmware when in DFU by holding alt and pressing restore, you can then select the custom firmware (221pwn.ipsw)

    hope this helps
