Ipod Capacity

    I have an 8 gig ipod
    but when I plug it in it says it only has 6.8 gigs in total?
    what happened the the other 1.2 gigs?

    Firmware. apple puts on the firmware and it takes up room in "other" it should on;y be about 700 mb though

    apple (and every other memory maker) calculates 1GB as 1000MB while it's actually 1024 MB

    [it goes deeper down into the bytes, but I don;t have exact values]

    so theres no way to like, get that back?
    cause 1.2 is alot

    not unless u want want a useless ipod. that Firmware has to be there for it to work properly. try a restore. it might go down a little bit. like i said 1.2 gb is a lot
