Have had iPod for 3weeks - got wifi today- loaded laptop OK - tried to get iPod onto wifi - it asks for password. When I set up router etc had passwords everywhere plus one for iPod. Also have setup homegroup (with a password!)
Where do I get the password that gets my iPod going nicely?:

On the router. If your laptop is connected via WiFi, it's the same password you entered in your laptop.

Thanks for all your help but the problem is still there. I have contacted the IP who suggested that I changed the security settings but couldnt explain why, and the iPod supplier said the same as you but I found that the key on the router was different to the sticker that you are supposed to keep as it has all the info needed!
At the moment I am letting things cool down while I gather passwords together.

The passwords arent always the same.

When you setup the router, it may define multiple passwords.
It should save a readme file some where with all your info.

I know that depending on the security settings you pick. You may have a regularr password for computer put then a Key for other devices. Thats what happened to me. I just disable the password. I live in the country, rural area with cows, no one to steal my wifi.

Look for the read me file.

4th Gen iPod touch connection problems

Thanks again to everyone for your help.
I sat and went through every password associated with the ipod and router alternating upper and lower case - got it on the 4th try!! Talk about patience but I remember back to the early days with windows 3.1 and that was a hairlosing experience. Still its cleared and I have started loading apps etc.
It definitely helped to have you all in my corner.
