The connector on the ipod 4 is the same, just smaller then before. Unless you have oem connector, don't expect your old connector to work.

the opening on the bottom is not.

it is the same pin connector, but the slit to add the connector is thinner.

Its the same 30 pin dock connecter.

I'm not sure if anyone of you guys would remember this, but there was a time when Apple used firewire for the cable and i think USB at one point too. Then came the 30 pin dock connecter. The actual cable was much longer and the white part that you plug in to the device was much thicker and fatter. Same with the plastic peace on the USB part. I think that changed once the 2007 iPods came along.

I'm still waiting for Apple to change the white to black or sliver.

Im using my ipod nano 1st gen cable with my ipod touch 4 and it works but its a little tighter fit. The new cable doesnt have the little locking system like the old cables do

Steve said during the keynote "here's the bottom with the same old 30 pin connector"

    They'll still work

It will. It uses the 30 pin dock connecter right? Chances are it till.

Just make sure you replace the old univseral dock connecter with the new one just incase your old one does not work. By that I mean this:

from engadgets review it seems that it doesnt even come witha universal dock connector. apple is really skimping out on us this year. i mean cmon, no new apple headphones, no dock connector. jesus apple. and im watching another review and it also doesnt come with the dock adaptor. liek thats just sad.
