ok so ive tried connecting through cyberduck and it always gives me the same message:
    Connection Failed
    The kexTimeout (30000 ms) expired.

next i went to Fugu and entered my ip address and it said Connecting
but then it just sent me back to the page where i enter my ip address but no error message popped or anything

so then i tried terminal and it gives me the message:
    Operation Timed Out

    what am i doing wrong?
yes in cyberduck im set to SFTP and in terminal im typing ssh root@<ipaddress>
im set to port 22 in both cyberduck and fugu
using the password alpine as well. even tried dottie and didnt work either.
i am sire im using the right IP address as well.

    another thing:
ive tried entering this in terminal:

    Code:
    ping <ip address>
since someone told me to do that to see if my ipod was actually there
and when i do that, its repeatedly gives me the same message:
    ping: sendto: Host is down

what can i do to make this stop?
    am i doing something wrong?
    HELP PLEASE!

try reinstalling openSSH, then checking that the port is 22, user is root, pass is alpine

and also check to see if your IP address has changed

other than that... not much else to tell you. If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying, it usually takes 3-10 connection attempts to fully establish a connection the first time after a fresh jailbreak

the only problem I could see would be either your SSH client (you should be using CyberDuck) or your Router settings

or maybe even a problem with your CFW...

does you iPod have any wifi connection issues at all?

It works on Cyberduck fine... Albeit, it took both to see each other after 5 minutes after I installed OpenSSH.

Make sure you have OpenSSH. If not, install it, reboot your iPod, then connect it to your USB.

    Use this screeny I made...

Remember you use SSH and use Port 22, username is root and the password is alpine. (A common oversight...)

Hmmmmmmm... I get that when (a) my iPod is backing up and I'm trying to SSH in, or (b) I'm synching with iTunes. If you're timing out, you've definatly got a connection problem there. Are you using a cradle, or a USB cable. And if it's the latter is it a power AND data cable?

hmm well when i plug my ipod in, it goes to backup and sync but on my ipod, i slide to cancel everything. could that be it maybe?
and i use a USB cable.
and what do you mean by latter?

Just solved the same problem with my own... if you're still in need (or anyone who stumbles on this later).

Noob probs, really. I might be a secret blonde...
    -typo in ip
    -connected to different wireless networks
AND -still connected by USB, even after quitting iTunes/ejecting iPod, apparently you still have to unplug it.

    GAH!

    Solved.
