Hey guys, having some problems with my 1st Gen ipod. I recently updated the software to v3.1.2 and now my ipod is really slow, menu's lag and jerk and its awful to use now.

Ive restored it to factory settings twice and rebooted it lots of times but nothing seems to clear the problem. Any suggestions? (oh and my ipod isn't jailbroken)

The first gen's hardware may not be able to handle the 3.X firmware. I would try and put a lower firmware(2.X) and see how it goes.

Hmmm... First off, it will be slowish. The 1st Gen's hardware is the slowest of all the iDevices. So you will have some slower performance.

Second, it may be dying. The flash memory may be meeting the end of its life (I doubt it, though).

And any background processes that you have will hurt it.

The best way to fix it is (i'd think) to go back to an earlier firmware. If you don't use apps, the fastest firmware would be a 1.x firmware.

i have 1g iphone and i updated it to the 3.0 os and my batt life sucks now but runs good no lags at all but it will only stay on (with no one playing it) for 3 hours.
i am pissed about that it used to stay on for 2 days (on lock screen)

I have a first gen running the latest 3.X firmware, jailbroken with backgrounder and SBSettings, and my iPod runs perfectly, so it's not a problem of the iPod not being able to handle it.

Did you try clean restoring it without a back up?

    Yeah, try this.

When I had my 1G, I'd do this and it would suddenly work great... Especially under 3.0.
