well, to be honest - if you just want an ipod and a camera, I suppose you buying an ipod touch 2G and with the rest of the money a well performing compact digicam ;)

I started with an ipod touch 1G and then bought an iphone because I wanted the PHONE, the GPS, the INTERNET ON THE GO and BLUETOOTH not because I wanted an ipod...
only for listening to music my 1G already satisfied me ;)
I did the "no sim" thing because I didn't found a way to transfer my very large contact list from my old phone to the new iphone so I had to wait until I had time for doing it manually.

and: I really do not like the iphones camera...it is definetely bad (ok perhaps it is because I'm a semi-professional photograph owning a D-SLR and an upperclass digicam)

My hubby uses our old 2g iphone as an itouch...and son has the itouch 4thgen...they do pretty much the same only the 'real' itouch does a faster job of it cos its a few years newer and has the upgraded ios and the it has the better camera and face-call thingy via interwebs but yeah...they do pretty much exactly the same. Our iphone has previously been activated and is jb'd, so now, without an active sim in it, it just has the tiny icon "no sim" up the top left of screen which is no big deal.
