    I know this is a personal decision but I am hoping some of you wouldn't mind giving me some input. I am trying to decide between purchasing an iphone or the ipod touch. I have seen the iphone and have played with it but I really don't like the idea of having to sign a 2-year contract which for me would include a high monthly bill. And it appears to me that the ipod can do everything the iphone does except for phone, text messaging and camera. So I am wondering if the ipod would be a better choice for me. My one hesitation in that is not knowing how difficult it will be to find wifi service when I am away from home.

    Can anyone give any insight to why you would prefer one to the other? I would be interested in hearing any opinions.

    Thanks!

    well, with apps from the store, you are able to text and message on the ipt. with a jailbroken 2g, you can do some stuff and make calls on the ipt 2g. as for camera, i am searching and deving onto plugging a digital camera into an ipt and installing the camera app, but thats far from finished, considering the new 3.0 update. my personal opinion is to get the iphone, i dint care about the money, i want the support and apps and all that stuff. but for fun, i would get the ipod. your choice though

    I am using the iPod touch 2G for business and leisure and thus far, it's been a right decision instead of commiting to a contract with Maxis (iPhone distri. for Malaysia)... Even if the touch does not have a camera, at least the body remains slim unlike the slightly bulky iPhone...

    Therefore, I suggest you go for the iPod touch as it can do almost everything an iPhone can do , minus the phone calls and texting!

    I would go with the iphone personally.

    Chances are you are going to end up with an iPod and an normal phone

    Heres the math

    Normal phones:
    regular bill: same as the iphone wont be a factor in this
    Texting: 30 a month
    Data: 30 a month but not required
    Ipod: Cost 100$ more assumming you are going to get a new one at normal prices

    Iphone
    Regular bill: not a factor
    Texting: 20 a month
    Data: 30 a month(required)
    Iphone: -100$

    We are just going to Zero out the normal cost of a phone (the minutes and all the other expenses and focus on just the differences) we are also going to assume that the "normal phone" you get is free.
    Example 1: no extras
    For a normal phone its will be 0$ for the plan and 100$ more for the ipod

    However an iphone you are required to get 30$ data plan however its 100$ cheaper for the initial device: 620$

    ipod=100
    Iphone= 620
    Difference= +520

    Example 2: Just texting

    So lets say you have a normal phone with unlimited texting.
    Thats 30 a month + the cost of the ipod
    so
    820 bucks over a 2 year spand

    Now for an iphone it cost 20 a month but you are required to also order a data plan
    so 20 a month+ 30 a month -100$
    thats 1200 bucks threw out the course of 2 years

    ipod=820
    Iphone= 1200
    Difference= +380

    Example 3: Data and Texting
    Lets say on your normal phone you are going to get a something like a blackberry and you want a data plan and texting
    for a normal phone
    30 a month +30 a month +100 for ipod=1540$ for 2 years

    for an iphone
    30 a month +20 a month -100 for phone its self=1100 for 2 years

    So if you want both its much ceeper (420$) to go with the iphone as opposed to the other phone

    ipod=1540
    Iphone= 1100
    Difference= -420

    Example 4: Just Data

    Iphone = Normal phone
    theirs no math to be done besides the differences in cost of the devices

    ipod=820
    Iphone= 620
    Difference= -200

    Conclusion:
    If you don't want anything on your phone you are much better off going with just 2 separate devices (phone+ipod)

    However in example 2 they are so close I would personally just take the extra convince of internet everywhere and the other two sinerios are obvious winners for the iphone.

    Score sheet IMO
    iPhone: 3
    iPod: 1

    it is quite likely
    it will probably have a bumped up processor such as the 3GS
    maybe the magnometer

    it's only a couple of months so just hold out
