    Hi,

I thought about buying an iPhone 3G S. But officially unlocked phones are quite expensive so I'd like to know some facts about the new unlock.

First: Is it going to come out soon?
Second: I think this is more a general question. If I unlock my phone and restore it after that, does the unlock still exist? Or do I have to do it every time I restore it?

    Thanks!

    1. The unlock for the 3GS is already out; Ultrasn0w. However, Ultrasn0w can not be applied without jailbreaking the phone first. The jailbreak will not be released until Apple release their 3.0.1 update.
(Reasons being: The 3.0.1 update might affect the jailbreak process, and therefore is may not work. Same goes for the unlock.)

    2. Yes, if you restore you will have effectively 'restored' your iPhone to it's original state i.e. No jailbreak, no unlock. Therefore, you will have to jailbreak and unlock everytime you restore.
