I don`t know what has happened but my iphone screen is so dim you can barely see it. I have tried changing the brightness settings and restarting, rebooting etc., but nothing works. This is insane!

Do you have SBSettings installed ?
I had that back when I had my iPod , and I ended up having to uninstall SBSettings for it to work again.
    This is assuming you're jailbroken.

yes, i uninstalled sbsettings because I thought it was causing weird changes in the brightness settings. I will try resetting my settings. :(

Ok reset settings worked... I was freaked out there for a while. Had never experienced an issue that didn`t go away by power + home.

I do not know what the cause of this problem is but it seems to reoccur when I have used flashlight app from cydia. Ugg... I actually used that app quite often.

    Hey
    Do you have auto-brightness on?
    Do you have a case?

If you have a case that covers the light sensor, and you have auto-rightness it will always be dim because it will think the ambient light is very low, so the screen cant be as bright.

I have no case, this was a bug I'm not sure if it was sbsettings fault or flashlight but something screwed up.

Yeah I know this is an iPod forum but I have both a 1st gen 16gb touch and 8gb 3g iPhone so I just come here for both.

I have a similar problem: I haven't jailbroken my ipod, and I've tried restoring and resetting all the settings. It still doesn't work. The screen is dim to the point that it's inoperable.
