You have to pay to convert them.

I suggest using the website myxertones.
what you do is visit the site on your iPhone and find a ring you like.

Click download for iPhone and it adds it to your rings

Wasn't there an app called SendSong that could do it?

Yes there is an app that can do it, or you can convert any song from your library manually and then ssh it into your ringtones folder in the iphone. I prefer the manual method, which in a nutshell needs you to start with an mp3 file, you then upload this to http://audiko.net/ , which crops it to 30 seconds and fades in and out, save your clip to your computer, import into iTunes and covert to AAC format. Find the file and rename it to a .m4r file and copy it to a memorable location. Then you can SSH into your iphone or import it into iTunes and sync it that way.

if you have a mac computer you can make a ringtone yourself using garageband, you have to edit it then click share then send ringtone to itunes...that is what i do...just pm me a song and tell me what parts you want and i will try to send it back to you in the iphone ringtone format...
