don't work on my ipod touch.
it starts up but displays blank untill it closes and goes into the home page.
    is this common?

You most likely forgot to chmod them.. And there's already threads like this one with people getting answers, try SEARCHING next time.

    Do a /bin/chmod -Rf a+x /Applications/* via putty.

How about.. instead of saying "that didn't work", you could describe in more detail what exactly didn't work, in what stage of the process and what happened.. Otherwise, noone can help you or will even want to help you.

    Mail Application

This is because you most likely are missing the /System/Library/frameworks/PreferenceBundle/MobileMailSettings.bundle which is required for Mail. That is what i am searching the internet for right now...

    If your touch is jailbroken..

Unzip all the files, then add .app to the name of each folder..
    i.e rename MobileMail to MobileMail.app ..

Then use scftp (and how you use that is described in the jailbreak guide) to copy the folders into the /Applications folder. After that, SSH into your touch .. and type: /bin/chmod -Rf a+x /Applications/*

After that, reboot your touch and the apps should be there for you to use.
