    Mods, if this is illegal, please remove.

    This article I found on iHackintosh this morning seems quite interesting:

    For reference, the reason we can discuss Android is because it is open-source and free. iPhone OS isn't.

    no iPhone OS is proprietary software! nothing in it is open source except for some small parts!

    otherwise jailbreak would be too easy! if the kernel would be open source for example then overclocking and stuff like that would've been done in less a day or so

    free is not the same as open source - open source= source code available for free
    free=final software (binary) is available

    The iPhone OS is free, not open source. The iPod touch OS costs money depending on the firmware, and it to is closed source.

    This post isnt illegal in any way. They aren't giving you links to download the operating system, just information about the project they are working on. It's legal for the same reason we can discuss jail breaking freely; it's our device and we can modify it however we like.

    If your argument was true, there wouldn't be any discussion of jail breaking on this site.

    Who knows if it's true. I'll just hope so in the name of the iPhone 2G users.

    I said it would probably happen and it did. I'll be using this on my iPhone 2G when I fix it.
