    don't misinform him.

the US iphone are coming with 1.1.2 OTB and you would have to UNLOCK it to use with any other carrier other than att. the only way to unlock a 1.1.2 OTB iphone right now is to use turbosim. there is no other way of unlocking it

from what i have been reading about iphones you can downgrade the firmware to the earlier version then use jailbreak.

No you can't downgrade 1.1.2 iphones, only the ones that were upgraded to it. In other words, if it's new then you can't downgrade it

Sorry I'm a little confused by the contradicting answers...

If i've got this right, i will be likely to get a 1.1.2Iphone that can be jailbroken (to allow installation of 3rd party apps) but I cannot unlock it to run on the orange mobile phone network?

And will I be able to unlock in the near future, is there people working on unlocking it?

    you got it.
and to question #2. You can only hope for the best. They've found exploits in the new bootloaders so all you can do now is just hope and wait.

although if you buy a turboSIM, you can use a OTB 1.1.2 iphone on any network but its a lot of work.

OTB 1.1.2 iphones can ONLY be unlocked with TURBOSIM(hardware). Upgraded 1.1.2 iphones can be unlocked with ANYSIM(software)
