Had my buddy give me a original iPhone he had laying around that he found. It comes jailbroken and unlocked, I was able to just pop in my T-Mobile sim and was working.

Now I am wondering if there is any reason I should go to 3.1.3 becuase iTunes keeps asking. Don't think he knows how it was jailbroken.

    3.1.2 (7D11)

No point of going to 3.1.3. The main reason it was released was so it can kill te jailbreak and make the devs release a new one so they can patch up the exploit in 4.0. Plus if u resrore you'll have to jailbreak and unlock again

He wants to retain his baseband since he's using T-mobile and 3.1.3 updates it (not really sure bout the original iPhone but I know that this is the case with the 3g) so DON'T UPDATE and like ripply said it's pointless

The original iphone is not affected by BBUpdates.
You can always have the latest Firmware and your unlock will ALWAYS work. Use Bootneuter in Cydia and youre fine.
