Incorrect. Uses satellites to pinpoint your location.

iPhone 3G contains A-GPS, it needs active cellular network for full functionality :>

The thing that you talking about is Skyhook, this thing uses wifi locations, it requires ANY network connection to function don't need to be by wifi, but you need to be in range of 3 wifi networks that are in Skyhook database. All iPhone OS devices support that.

And remember, GPS and Localization are 2 diffrent things, GPS is only one of localization systems available. Europe builds there own satellite localization system called Galieo, in connection with US's GPS it will locate in 1m precision :>

3 wifi sources or 3 cell towers to triangulate your location, the wifi just makes it more specific as to where you are, at least in the old iphone, in the 3g it has gps technology that lets a satalite show you a very specific location

no it can use just one wifi or cellular connection to locate you, but its less precise

but if less then 3 makes dramatically lower precision.

I shouldn't have said iPhone. I meant the iPod Touch.
