So I've recently been turning off 3G just to conserve battery power and running on Edge. I don't notice any difference in cell call quality so I don't miss 3G. One thing I saw on the phone though was weird. Usually there's the big "E" to signify you're on Edge, every once in a while the "E" is gone and there's a dot in it's place. Last for 10-20 seconds maybe then eventually the "E" comes back.

Anyone know what this "dot" is?

My guess is "out of data signal range"?

Verizon phones have an "EV" symbol - when you're out of the data signal range it changes to a "1X" symbol.

    Just a guess...

Weird, cause the cell-phone strength bars don't go down either, they're still there showing that I have a signal, but the E goes away and the dot appears.

Same thing on my VZW phone. The bars don't fluctuate, the EV/1X does.

I suppose that you dont have edge anymore and you have GPRS and 3G only. But 3G is off, so you go on GPRS

The dot is your GPRS signal, the dot replaced the blank square which was on 2.0. When you get the E you are getting Edge and when you don't your recieving GPRS
