Target is set to become the latest big chain retailer to offer Apple’s iPhone, with both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS arriving at the company’s stores on November 7.

The company will handle activations in-store. In a statement, a Target spokesperson said, “With expert support from Target Mobile specialists and in-store activation, our guests will be able to leave the store with a new, working iPhone3GS or iPhone4 in-hand.”

Target already offers the iPad at its stores, so the addition of iPhone does not come as a huge surprise. However, the news does come on a day where at least one survey has Apple passing RIM as the top smartphone maker in the U.S.

Adding another major retailer partner for iPhone (in addition to Walmart and Best Buy) will only further the competition between Apple, RIM and all of the manufacturers that have embraced Android in the past year and made it the top-selling mobile OS.
