The iPhone 2.0.2 software update came out today and though its intent was unspecific (”bug fixes”) it looks as if the results are truly impressive. Vincent tested OS 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 side by side in a series of speed tests using Mobile Safari and the results speak for themselves.

You can see three side-by-side speed tests below. In each test, the iPhone running on the update completely loads iPhoneBuzz.com before the phone running the old OS even begins or gets close to completing. Tests where the phones were switched to use Wi-Fi loaded pages at about the same rate. Wi-Fi is also still considerably faster than 3G when loading a page.
Sure, this may not be the most scientific of tests, but it certainly seems like a massive improvement, wouldn’t you say?

Is this wifi or 3G of edge or all?

EDIT: I just participated in the experiement, going to iPhoneBuzz at the same time... and 3G beat my wifi. What the hell?..

If it is on Wifi too, I'm going to be well annoyed, I only just updated to 2.0.1 today!

    I call shenanigans!!

If cache was clear on the 2.0.1 would it still show website history in address bar? Could be other factors as well. The 2 GPRS radios in close proximity could cause issues.

You're arguing against yourself here. 2.0.1 was on the right. If the cache WASN'T actually cleared on 2.0.1, shouldn't it load the page FASTER than 2.0.2? I saw the website history on 2.0.1 so I was wondering about that too, but 2.0.2 still loaded faster.
