OK, so I'm almost 90% certain that I am going to get an iPhone4, which I know will require me to update to iTunes 9.2; however, I do *NOT* want to upgrade my iPod to iOS4 (this is not even going to be a consideration).

Will this be do-able (iPhone4 and iPod Touch 3.1.2 on the same computer)?

    Thanks.

Although I have no first-hand experience with this particular scenario, I am fairly confident it is certainly do-able. The reason is because the firmware on one device is independent of other devices. Just because one device has iOS 4 doesn't mean all other devices synced to the same computer must have it too.

So you should be able to sync your iPhone, which has iOS 4, and also sync your iPod. When you sync your iPod, it's going to tell you that there is an update available, but as always, you have the option as to whether or not you want to upgrade.

If you're using spirit that might be a problem.

If you're already jailbroken and don't think you're going to need to mess with spirit anymore, just upgrade. It's not like 9.2 drops compatibility with 3.1.2...

Make anotther user on your computer and call it "iPhone 4"
Copy the current iTunes you have onto a usb or disc. transfer to that other user. download, viola!

This process alone is inefficient... and so is having to maintain two libraries with the same music and such.

Isn't there a file in Cydia that stops iTunes asking for an update?

and did not have any problems syncing the 2 devices.

Oh, and a side note: the phone came with 4.0.1 factory installed.)
