Given sales of both devices, I'd say that they've already been killed by the iPod touch/iPhone/smartphones in general.

    For now.

As much as im a gamer im kind of glad. Theres so many problems with this generation thanks to dlc, online passes, half baked games and overpriced accessories. I used to be big on psp and ds but now the app store is flooded with great priced games, sures there iap but it really isnt that bad.

I used to play PS3 a bunch, but got busy...and my main reason now for only playing games on my iPod is the portability and the fact that it's the only mobile gaming device I have :p

I can totally agree with "Spending fifty dollars on the latest Call of Duty for PS Vita isn’t always economical." I mean, it's COD, whatd'ya expect, free DLC? I think people have more 3DS's and PSP's than you think, it's just that there is more people that would bring out their iDevice, than another gadget, like in a video I saw where Steve Jobs said something along the lines of "People don't want their house guests see them serve Pepsi, they rather have their guests see them serve Coca-cola" *NOT the exact qoute, but it was something like that though.

I remember when I used to volunteer at a summer camp years ago, at least half of the kids there brought a Nintendo DS to play Mario Kart or whatever. Now when I worked there as an employee last summer, almost all the kids have iPod touches. Its very scary.

I don't game at all anymore on my touch, it's too much of a battery killer. I prefer Vita/Gameboy.

that is why mobile gaming devices are starting to kill sales from dedicated gaming devices. why spend $30+ dollars on a game when you can spend $5. indeed, the gaming experience on a dedicated device would be much more enjoyable, but just how long will that game entertain you. with the same amount of money, i can purchase way more games on the appstore that will last me for awhile. plus, having a constantly connected internet connection on my iPhone will let me play online wherever i go, and not have to rely on a wi-fi connection.

If I had to choose one device for gaming between my iPhone and 3DS, I'd choose my 3DS, hands down. But I may be in the minority when I say I want to play games that are made for more than "pick-up-and-play" gamers. I say any Pokémon game>any App Store game.
