Right now I have a factory unlocked iPhone 4 16gb which easily sells for $400 on eBay. So if I wanted I could buy a brand new Nexus with no money loss. I see that the Nexus specs blow the iPhone 4 away but specs don't equal performance when it comes to android. My main concerns are battery life, size, build quality, and no apple features (eg: iMessage). Does anyone own this device that can tell me about your experience with it? Also, is there a store that has display models I can try out?
I have one and love it. Pure Android, very easily rootable, it's awesome. Battery life: It's good, and can be amazing with a bit of flashing. I am currently using AOKP with franco.Kernel and it's the best I've found so far. I don't monitor battery life much, but I noticed a few days ago that after about 15 hours on battery and light usage (about an hour), I still had 75% of battery left. That was with GPS/sync/everything on. Size: Compared to the iPhone, it's huge. But I quickly got used to it and now love it. I used to think 3.5" was the perfect size, but I now think it's too small. The 4.65" display is great and makes browsing the web, reading emails, etc. more enjoyable IMO. The top left corner is sometimes hard to reach (I use it with my right hand, most of the time), but that depends on the size of your hands, and I assume you have a second hand, just in case. Build quality: No problem so far, and I don't expect any. The back is plastic, but it's good plastic. No Apple features: There's no way to magically bring them to Android, but there are alternatives for most of them. I personally don't miss any. I'm pretty sure Best Buy has them on display.
I was thinking about picking one up myself seeing as I can get the sprint version for $99 at amazon. At $99 for a new phone and 32GB of storage with good specs, thats a steal for me.
Good deal but unless you're on sprint(which I assume) I'd recommend getting the unlocked one from the play store. You're not locked into a contract and the phone is pretty cheap.
My mom is on sprint so that's why I was going for that and I don't have enough for the unlocked version right now. Ya I knew about that but is it effective as of now because I wanted to get it just in case Amazon removes it because of this.
