I'm getting an iPad and I was wondering if I could take my iPhone 4 micro sim and use it in the iPad 3G for data

yes, be careful tho, especially if you don't have unlimited data, as using the ipad on a limited data plan could add up quickly.

Actually, I don't think you can. At least I have tried to exchange the SIM card of my iPhone 4 and iPad (iPad SIM to iPhone and vice versa) on AT&T. The problem seems to be that the SIM card for the iPad is exclusively used to identify it as an iPad, so when you put in another SIM card, it won't let you activate the plan. And the iPad SIM doesn't work on iPhone 4 either.

Might work on some other network though, since I'm still not clear on what happened.
