Both the iPhone 4 and iTouch 3g use the Broadcom BCM4329FKUBG, but Wifi N is only officially on iPhone 4.

Also, the iPhone 4 can only use the 2.4GHz, not the full 5GHz that wireless N can give you. So it is really a bit of a scam, IMO.

um, I'm not sure you actually know what you're talking about

802.11n works in both the 2.4 and 5.0 ghz range

5.0 ghz has a shorter range, but is generally a less crowded spectrum

2.4 longer ranger, but in same spectrum as a lot of cordless phones, microwaves, B and G networks

but to say it's a bit of a scam just is dumb

How do I not know what I'm talking about? Here, I'll spell it out for you.

The iPhone 4 (and the iPod touch 3G, if it ever gets the chip unlocked) only operate in the 2.4GHz range. That's just enough to advertise it as Wireless-N (which is being done) but many people, myself included, would prefer it to be the 5GHz spectrum. As you say, it is less crowded compared to the 2.4 spectrum, which, as you say, has other devices utilizing it.

If you don't believe me, here's a screenshot straight from Apple's site:

Perhaps it isn't a scam, but it does seem like an advertising ploy.

there's TONS of wireless N devices (routers, nics, WAPs, tablets, etc etc etc) that all run only in the 2.4 range

I bet that the MAJORITY of wireless N devices run only 2.4

it's not a scam, not even remotely

this is the part that makes it sound like you don't know what you're talking about

you make it sound like you're saying you're getting 2.4 ghz worth of spectrum rather than 5ghz worth (as opposed to running 2.4 ghz or 5ghz. ie, it's not a volume of spectrum, but a specific range)
