Hey there. I recently received an iPhone 3GS from my friend. They had taken it into a shop to be unlocked so I could use it with my sim card. However, it was unlocked to iOS 4.1. As all the apps I attempted to download required 4.2 or higher, I decided to restore the phone and attempt to unlock it myself to 5.01 (and when that failed 5.1) I've tried several version of redsn0w and encountered several problems. Sometimes a message comes up saying 'the device does not support untethered jailbreak' and the process continues, or it gets to the point where lines of code scroll down the screen before saying 'no successful firmware download'. I've researched solutions for both these problems and nothing has worked. snowbreeze seems to work, but when attempting to restore to the custom snowbreeze firmware in iTunes I've encountered errors 3194, 2005 and 1600. No solutions to these errors have worked. I don't know what else to do. Any help would be great.
I assume you are on the iPad baseband for the unlock? What may have happened is you corrupted the baseband by restoring to stock firmware. On the iPad baseband, you have to always restore to custom firmwares. Tell me what the baseband is in Settings > General > About > Modem Firmware. And let's find out what your options are to restore to. Currently 4.1 and 5.1.1 are being signed by Apple for the 3GS, so you can restore to either of those plus any you have SHSH blobs for. Open TinyUmbrella, click on your iPhone in the left pane, and click "Save SHSHs". Then tell me which firmwares it has in the box.
Hey, sorry about the delay. I can't access Settings on my iPod as it fails to Activate when I boot it up. Also I tried to save the SHSHs but nothing happened? Tinyumbrella says the TSS server is not running. Cheers.
By "iPod" you are referring to the iPhone 3GS, right? You can use f0recast to identify the baseband. Also one of the first things you should do is save the SHSH blobs for the current firmware (5.1?) with redsn0w (Extras > SHSH blobs > Fetch).
Yeah sorry, I'm used to having an iPod touch. Saved the blobs, and yes I'm on 5.1. The baseband is 06.15.00 according to f0recast, although apparently the iPhone isn't jailbreakable, but it is unlockable.. do I need to downgrade to jailbreak it? Cheers
1. Update iTunes. 2. Update the iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1.1. 3. Download the latest version of Redsnow. redsn0w 0.9.11b4 for OS X redsn0w 0.9.11b4 for Windows (be sure to run in Administrator mode) 4. Launch Redsn0w application. 5. Once RedSn0w opens click the 'Jailbreak' button. 6. Make sure your device is OFF then click the Next button. 7. RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. 1. Turn the device off, plugged in.2. Hold down both the home and power button for 10 seconds.3. Release the power button will still holding the home button for another 10 seconds.4. You are now in DFU mode.8. RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data. 9. Select Cydia from the list of options and click 'Next.' 10. RedSn0w will begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel. 11. Your device is now jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard. 12. You're done. Enjoy! To boot tethered: 1. Open Redsn0w Application. 2. Click 'Extras.' 3. Click 'Just Boot.' 4. You'll now need to put the device into DFU mode to boot it. 1. Turn the device off, plugged in.2. Hold down both the home and power button for 10 seconds.3. Release the power button will still holding the home button for another 10 seconds.4. You are now in DFU mode.5. The device will now reboot.
I've tried those exact steps with redsn0w and failed multiple times. I'll give it another go in a bit though, cheers.
Okay, I tried again and it was all working smoothly. I installed ultrasn0w, remembered to insert my simcard then attempted to reboot the device to get my phone functionality up and running. However when I try and 'Just Boot' now it says there's an error with the SHSH blobs.. any ideas? Thanks Edit: I should note the device won't power off fully when it's plugged in.. it hangs at the apple logo and doesn't turn off when I hold the power button. It was like that before but still managed to enter DFU mode for the initial tethered boot.
