I am wanting to jailbreak iOS 4.0 and have an MC iPhone 3GS. However, back on 3.1.2 I could jailbreak without being tethered.

Does this mean I still have the old bootrom?

What tool did you use to jailbreak on 3.1.2?

Are you 100% sure that you have an MC model?
    Look at settings>general>about>model.

Okay guys! I have a simple solution. Find out your bootrom version.

Method 1: Easy but not guaranteed
Method 2: Requires to go into DFU Mode
    What version can be jailbroken?
    What version cannot be jailbroken?
Guys, should I make this into a thread? Just asking for suggestions. This could help 3GS users till a jailbreak (other than redsn0w and pwnagetool)comes out.
