So i install siriport.ru, and one of the steps during installation in cydia is 'freeing up root space.' I figured that meant space on /, and it did. After installation and reboot (ios 5.1.1), i now had 400 MB free on / rather than 190 some without the siri port.
Now here's the catch: if i want to go and uninstall the port, i cant. Well, sort of...
    • I open cydia>manage>packages
    • then i locate the siriport.ru port for ios 5.1
    • I press uninstall
    • it tells me to respring after i uninstall it (the bottom black button reads restart springboard rather than reboot device)
So..... i press respring. worst decision made yet.
it gets stuck in a respring loop. the spinner never stops, and never freezes. after about 10 minutes the screen flashes white for a split second than the device shuts down. I tether boot from redsnow, but it ALWAYS gets stuck on the pineapple. I cant fix this except by restoring, which i have had to do twice now because of this error.

So, i am wondering if there is any way to install this siri port (and have it free up the / space) and uninstall it without these errors and keeping all of my root space? Because with the space free, i always get at least 200MB rather than 90-100MB free memory without the freed up space. Thanks! If worst comes to worst, i can always leave the port installed, taking up 200 MB of my 8GB iphone... :(

It uses system memory which you can't even utilize in iTunes.

Just don't mess with those siri ports...

well i understand what its doing to my space and memory, i just wanna know if theres a tool out there that can free up my root space like this port, or how to uninstall the port safely after it frees up the space

I think it may be allocating more space to the system actually, not freeing it up. Siriport just doesn't uninstall cleanly.

You can select your root size on sn0wbreeze, but why? /var space is more important

ok, just curious about this. id rather have a bit more / space, even if it is only about 100MB more. I can spare it, since i try not to bring my flash mem. below 1GB

You have to make a custom firmware and restore. This is what it looks like

ok, thanks so much! what is the default root partition size, if you know by any chance? I dont want to accidentally make it too small that it cant function.

Sn0wbreeze won't allow you to make it too small. The default is the very bottom of the scale on sn0wbreeze. Add about 200MB.
