Right I have a 3GS, out of the box as of yesterday. Just jailbroke on 3.1.2 with blackra1n - no unlock as its a legit phone with vodafone contract. Could you answer these questions for me:

    1) What is the ECID SHSH?

    2) What purpose does it serve?

    3) Is it worth doing?

    4) How do I get my ECID SHSH file?

Cheers for the replys (if any) -- really grey area for me. Been on iPT 2G for about 1 1/2 years now

    1) Its what signs your firmware

    2) Its what you need to downgrade your firmware

    3) yes, bad update can only be reversed with it and its like 1 tap in cydia

    4) you change your hosts file so itunes checks cydia first when signing a firmware file

right, well I have a problem. I clicked no to the "make my life easier page" without reading what it was in a haste to get out earlier - now I cant get it back.

What do I have to do to get Cydia to try and grab my ECID again?

ah crap lol. Well I got it manually but I really want it to be done through cydia. Any way of re-installing cydia that might do it.. ?

Once you have installed Cydia it should automatically cache your SSID blobs. However I'd also do it manually as it's always better to be safe than sorry.
