I've tried about every way to use BlackRa1n but its just not working for me. It keeps being stuck at DFU after I see the picture of Geohot.
    I've tried:
    - running at admin
    - running as Win XP compatibility mode
    - turn off itunes
    - turn off bonjour
    - turn off itunes helper
    - put blackra1n on desktop, C:, download folder
    - turned off iPhone
    - restart comp
    - tried a different computer (Win 7 32 bit and Vista 64bit)

Can someone that has done it on the 3Gs tell me exactly how they did it? Cause its not working and I've been trying since 4pm

    Updated 10/12/09:
Firmware 3.1.2 model starting with MB using iTunes 9.0.1.8.
    White iPhone 3Gs 16GB

    First outcomes:
    run blackra1n on desktop/download folder/C:
runned of Win 7 32bit or Vista 64bit
    run as administrator
    kill ituneshelper process
iPhone restarts shows the restore pic (cable + itunes icon)
    blackra1n says its done
see Geohot's face then blackscreen then never restarts
(has to force restore for it to get it back to normal)

    Second outcome:
    run blackra1n on desktop/download folder/C:
runned of Win 7 32bit or Vista 64bit
    run as administrator
    kill ituneshelper process
run on Win XP compatibility mode either Service pack 2 or 3
iPhone restarts shows the restore pic (cable + itunes icon)
    hangs there forever.
(has to force restore for it to get it back to normal too)
Tried to close blackra1n then open again without Win XP compatibility
    Goes to Outcome 1

    Tried various combinations

2nd Day of trying...still no luck

    Updated 10/13/09:

    Tried the new PwnageTool 3.1.4
    Created Custom Firmware
Tried it without activation or with
Tried increasing size of partition to 695 or 777mb
After Finish making custom firmware click on "no" for have not pwned yet button
iPhone goes into Recovery Mode installs firmware
The Apple Logo comes up, seems to upload fine
Then when its done and starts
    Black Screen
iTunes says it needs to be restored again
    (exact same thing as BlackRa1n)

    Other Attempts:
Tried to do it in Safe Mode with Networking in Windows
Tried to uninstall iTunes then reinstall
    Uninstalled USB drivers then reinstalled

3rd Day of Trying still no luck

    Problem Found:

    Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode):
    Product ID: 0x1227
    Vender ID: 0x05ac(Apple Inc.)
    Version: 0.00
    Serial Number: CPID:8920 CPRV:15 CPFM:03 SCEP:03 BDID:00 ECID:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx SRTG:[iBoot-359.3.2]
    Speed: Up to 480 Mb
    Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
    Location ID: 0xfd100000
    Current Avaliable (mA): 500
    Current Required (mA): 100

If you are running iBoot-359.3.2 24kPWN doesn't work on the iPhone 3GS it only works on iBoot-359.3
"To mac users who are now wondering how to know their iphone bootrom version under OS X, just check the system profiler while in DFU mode."

    Solution:

    • restart your iPhone
    • Unplug it from your computer
    • open blackra1n.exe
    • plug your iPhone back into your computer AFTER opening the program.
    • make it ra1n.

weird. it worked fine for my iPhone 3GS and I just jailbroke an iPhone 3G on the first try doing that, also.

For my 3Gs, all I did was download the blackra1n.exe and run it. I didn't unplug my iPhone or close iTunes.

Same problem here. I've been restoring countless times. I've tried on three computers and same DFU loop problem. I give up.

Still no luck, anyone got any other ideas? I've done like everything and the results are the same. I've tried on my friends computer and its still the same.

Hey, here's some instructions I found on some site:

    "1. Restore your iphone 3g to 3.1.2
    2. Close Itunes
    3. Turn off your iphone
    4. Kill ituneshelper.exe
    5. Download blackrain, move it to the root of your C drive.
    6. Run blackrain.exe as administrator, nothing else needed
    7. Click make it rain
    8. Hold down home and power button, as soon as you see the apple logo release the power button, continue to hold the home button.
    9. Release home button when you see geohot’s picture.
    10. Let it do its thing."

Thought you might wanna try it out. If it's successful I may try it... I wanna jailbreak now but I'm not exactly that free to restore and sync AGAIN.
