ive noticed (on my $1200NZD, 2 week old iphone 3g) 6 stuck/dead pixels, backlight leaking around the bezel, and 3 specs of dust under the screen, and a small crack near the headphone jack. They in no way affect my usage of the iphone, but i am still a little p*ssed that ive paid $1200+ for a phone that has issues like this.

I dont want one of the stupid refurbished replacements from apple, nor a new replacement, as they seem to all have problems (reading internet stories). Will apple give me a straight up refund? Or will they take it away for ages, check it, and send it back saying nothings wrong with it? Also, i got it from vodafone, so maybe it will all be done through vodafone?

I don't know about a refund but if you tell Apple about the dead pixels and light leak (I dunno about the dust but you could tell about that too) they will probibly give you a replacement.
