I heard the jailbreak is tethered and I would like to know exactly what that means. I heard you have to plug it into your computer every time you boot up? Is this a problem concerning that is also a phone and you may need to turn it off? Also, would I be able to downgrade to 3.1 or 3.0 firmware to have an untethered JB? thanks!

Did you get your 3GS recently? Because Apple changed the bootrom or something.

Tetherd mean everytime you turn it off you need to re-run the program you've used to jailbreak.

You won't be albe to downgrade if you get it anytime in Sept 09 or now.

Thanks for the help. Yeah, I just got mine for Christmas so I have the different bootrom. Is tethered an issue? I also have a 1G ipod touch so I have never had to deal with a tethered JB.

I don't think it is an issue at all. I haven't shut my phone off in a couple months. When I can't take calls I just put it in airplane mode and it solves that. Jailbreak and enjoy.

Does this mean I can't even turn it on without it being plugged in first?

That's what I was wondering, this may have turned me off of it. What if it needs to be shut off and I have no computer?

    I'm f***ed.

In 1 year I have never turned my iPhone 3G completely off.

With my 3GS I have turned it off once in 3 months.

That's actually a good point, I don't think I ever turned my BB off. I'm just going to go for it.
