    Hey

My iPhone 3G is locked with some other carrier, and I want to unlock it. I want to restore it to 2.2, but whenever I connect it to iTunes it tells me to enter some passcode. But I can't enter the passcode on the Phone!! Its locked!! So I am trying to get it into DFU mode. I hear the windows chime whenever I put it in DFU mode, but iTunes 8.1 isn't recognizing it!! Please help me with this! What should I do??

How are you trying to get it into DFU mode?

Wait nvm I figured it out. I was using the longer DFU method, so it wasn't working. I tried the short home-screen button and USB plugin method and it worked.

That would put it into restore mode but glad it worked.

DFU is a little different as I believe it doesn't let the iPhone OS startup and therefore less communication with iTunes (easier to JB the device).
