    Hello there,

well, basically I updated to 4.0.1 using iTunes through the official update server

And now because of that, it won't let me access my iPhone, it asks me to enter a valid SIM (AT&T, but I don't have one, and I'm not from the US to get one as well :|), also this is what iTunes gives me when I plug my phone in:

and my phone doesn't let me do anything, all it gives is the unlock slider, and when I unlock it takes me to a emergency only area where I only get a phone pad, which doesn't even work with my current SIM

I'd appreciate it BIG time if someone would be able to help me out, I've already downloaded the Jailbroken version of the 4.0.1 OS, if someone can help me get the restore option back, I'd be able to do the rest (hopefully).

    Thank you.

My iPhone 3G did this a lot during the 3.0 jailbreaks... I don't have it jailbroken anymore.

Taking out the SIM card and putting it back in may help... (who knows, possibly the SIM card hardware inside your iPhone is wearing out and getting finicky...)

I'm not able to understand iRecovery, is there a simpler tool which I can use to restore a custom firmware?

Can't be done, because it asks me to hold the sleep button, mine is broken

and I've already upgraded to v4.0.1 VIA iTunes, so it doesn't even give me a Restore option as the phone is an AT&T model.
