I know this prolly been asked..but which is more preferable?

If you buy an iPhone 3G..do they require you to set it up there?

I'd just like to buy the new one and use it as an iPod with a camera and basically super-updated over the touch.

The touch however is an actual iPod by foundation....if you had a choice which one would you buy?

Keep in mind an iPhone 3G is $200 and black or white while an iPod touch is still $300 and up in 8gb, 16gb, 32gb..actually i dunno if there is still 8gb

you cant. you have to activate it in store with a 2 yr agreement with at&t and be sucked into that for when the next iphone comes out and you cant get it cause you got the 3g. its really ridiculous

what if you bought an iPhone 3G off eBay, could you activate it as an iPod?

cuz i don't believe Apple really gives a damn about the iPoT that much...

well not many people are gonna be selling their 3g iphones on ebay considering that they have the 2 yr agreement. but if one WAS actually sold on ebay...it would be way a lot of money and yes you would be able to use it as a fancy ipod

All you do is buy it then cancel your plan, it's not hard. You still have to pay for the first month, though.

An iPhone will never be $200 or even $300 simply because of the yearly fee. Wait until it's jailbreakable and unlockable. If you're going for an iPod Touch just get a 16GB that's what i did and i'll never look back.

Yeah but it doesn't cost very much if you do it quickly. I think the longer you have owned it the more it costs. You could also just pull the SIM card and cancel your credit card. It's not like their gonna hunt you down, they don't care as long as your not getting it for free.

Actually, it's the other way around: iirc ATT now drops the ETF's price by $5 a month.
But it definitely doesn't go up.
