I recently helped someone install iOS 4.0 on their iPhone 3G. However, they have told me that all of their non-Apple apps crash after only being used for a brief time. Is there any way to fix this properly?

I take it you mean apps downloaded from the app store or do you mean cydia apps? Please be more specific.

If they're cydia apps, try to insall all updates you can. If they're appstore apps, make sure your iDevice can support them.
If this doesn't work, backup and restore, maybe try a clean install.Last resort:downgrading to 3.1.3

Oh I'm sorry, yes they're app store apps. I've never jailbroken.
I think a clean install would be best, but that eliminates all contacts and such unless they're synced with something, which they aren't...hmmm I'll have to figure it out. Thanks!

Sync your phone and backup the contacts to something online first, like yahoo or google. Then do a restore of the phone, "set up as new phone". Then re-sync your contacts back from whichever online storage you used when syncing.

Which button did you happen to press in iTunes. Update or Restore? This happens some times when you press update

Download one free app from the App Store on your iPhone, and it should help solve the problem. I had this issue back on 3.0

I had the same problem with 3.0, and I just deleted all of the apps and re-installed them in iTunes again and they all worked. (Well, at least all of them that were 3.0 compatible.)
