the screen is cracked and is he is selling it has is should i buy it
I have seen screen replacements and tools offered online.
The risk is $45 and more, if there is more damage.
does the touch screen work fine.. and is the screen damaged at all or is just the glass cracked?
It shouldn't matter, there are inexpensive (under $30) replacements that have the touch screen digitizer and the glass in one piece at sites like dealextreme.com and amazon.com. Don't go on ebay.
It is really easy too, and to replace the screen, just look on youtube. and replacing just the screen doesn't break the warranty. if you go further into repair though, into the bottom half of the device, you void the warranty.
Any opening the device or tampering with it voids the warranty?
there is a warranty sticker which is underneath the screen which you have to break in order to get into the logic board etc. that's when you're past warrenty
I am about to buy one from a friend, a first generation iphone with edge, with cracked glass, however the phone still functions normally its just hard to read. Do i need a new touch screen digitizer etc. or can i just buy an outer glass like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-iPhone-2G...ries?hash=item27a8f21204&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Off-Topic- In reply to this though, if it is a 1st Gen. then that would mean that the outer glass and digitizer are fused together, so you would have to buy a whole new digitizer-outer glass thingy.
Separate names with a comma.
