I have a dead strip on my iphone3/3s, not sure which one it is but dont think it matters.
    i think i have version 4.1

im fairly new to all this but i have managed to edit my general.plist to get the touch option in the general setting.

however the touch menu is blank and i am not sure why, can anyone offer any advice/help on fixing a dead strip or to what i may have done wrong getting the touch option, thanks

It's because AssistiveTouch is nonexistent in the iPhone 3G, any firmwares. Just to make sure, look in Settings > General > About > Model. Also try a restore to the latest iOS.

i was going to try a restore but i got the phone unlocked as it is an O2 phone with my orange sim card in and as far as i was aware this would cancel the unlock?

is there anything else you could suggest to help fix the dead strip or is it something i will just have to deal with?

It depends on how it is unlocked. If it's an IMEI unlock (a carrier did it) then you can restore, but if you did it via Ultrasn0w or other, you have to restore to a NO_BB IPSW. Check your Modem Firmware in Settings > General > About, and I'd also like to know your iOS version for certain.

    i got version 4.1

and it has an IMEI number, 15 digits long, does this mean i can restore?

did you want the modem firmware number also?

All phones have an IMEI number. I need the Modem Firmware, yes.

That means you can restore to a No Baseband IPSW, jailbreak, and unlock with Ultrasn0w. Run sn0wbreeze 2.9.6 through with the 4.2.1 IPSW in easy mode, and complete the instructions to restore to it. Once done, you will need to activate it with any AT&T SIM card, then open Cydia and install "Ultrasn0w" and you can pop in your orange SIM card.

You can use iFunbox to put the deb in /var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall to install it.
