The 2G is unaffected by the baseband updates. You can do what you want with it and still jailbreak and unlock it.

Your options: restore it to a custom firmware (created via Pwnage Tool on a Mac); that will jailbreak and unlock it (assuming you have a good firmware).

Your other option is to jailbreak it and then run bootneuter through cydia (I have not tried it but it should work).

upgrade to normal 3.1.2 then use Blackra1n to jailbreak, install cydia through blackra1n and in cydia search for bootneuter. do some googling first though

Best to update and then restore to your custom ipsw (which you have of course obtained legally). As you are on a 2G iPhone you won't have any baseband problems.

Blackra1n will jailbreak it but you can't use blacksn0w for the unlock.

To unlock it you will have to run bootneuter; look for it in Cydia (or rock I assume).
