So I'm looking into getting an iPhone 1st Gen (2G) over a 3G, mainly because I won't be using the 'Internet' option, and because it won't be on contract.. Now I have a cheap ATT phone, can I switch that SIM card out and put it into my 2G? And then turn off the Edge, because I can't afford data right now(just gonna use WiFi)....... Will all my phone options and unl. text work??

    Yes. It will work.

That is what I currently have, a 2G iphone with edge off since I'm always around wifi.

I wouldn't really know because I have a first gen ipod.

But wifi is wifi. If you are close to it, you will have stronger signal. And vice versa.

It's not really the phone or ipod, it's all about where you are to that signal.
