Hi, i have an old iPhone 2G 4 gigs lol that i use to travel with.
lately the edge logo "E" turns into a "G" ??? EDIT: it does it with any FW im on. im on the whited00r at the moment. (4.0)

does anyone know what it is? or what it means? i'm currently at home on the Fido network (Rogers) my 8 gig doesn't do this. but maybe because its a 3GS

A solid rectangle with an E inside it indicates the iPhone has a high-speed data connection over a GSM network using the EDGE technology. This connection gives you access to most of iPhone's Internet dependent features including Safari, Mail, YouTube and more. The iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store requires a Wi-Fi connection.

A G symbol indicates the iPhone has access to a data connection over a GSM network using GPRS technology. While GPRS connections do not offer the same throughput offered by an EDGE connection, you can still use many of iPhone's Internet dependent features including Safari and Mail. However, YouTube and the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store are unavailable.

GPRS is much slower than EDGE, to summarize

yeah, i just copied my previous post from Apple Support.

GPRS is a slower version of EDGE on GSM Networks, so wherever there is no EDGE Signal the iphone switches to GPRS.
