Ok so whenever I have jailbroken my iPhones they get slow, like expected.
But the iPad is expensive, and I don't want to mess it up. Best jail?

I used limera1n on the iPad I bought 2 days ago and it works perfect, no slowdowns at all. I did have to restart after installing cydia as it wasn't showing up. After the restart all is well.

I don't want to use winterboard, or sbsettings on the iPad... come to think of it. Any apps that are good for the iPad from cydia? I'm going to do some research.

Just put 4.2 on it and skip the jailbreak

personally, SBSettings is one of the most used apps on my iPad! I would stay away from OpenSSh on the iPad, however - it causes a few issues (slight screen MIS-alignment, 'big iPod touch' issue, etc). I would also recommend the backgrounder/circuitious combo and the categories/categoriesSB combo for multitasking and folders (which I personally prefer over the native iOS 4.x multitasking and folders).

Instead of all that, how about 4.2?

All that cydia stuff will just slow it down, in my opinion. And I did tests, and every device that I installed Categories on got messed up into a boot loop and I had to DFU it. Hate Categories.

that's strange - i use categories on every idevice i have and have never had an issue... I originally update my iPod from 3.1.3 to 4.0 and found 4.0 to be much worse than 3.1.3 with all of the cydia add-ons, so i went back to 3.1.3 on my iPod. My iPad is still running 3.2 and it works perfectly.... Maybe 4.2 will change all of that... I'm not even looking at it until a jailbreak is available though - Ive learned my lesson....
